It is based on three types of soil: gravel, clay, and limestone (with a clay-limestone transition), and is located on the right bank of the Garonne, adjacent to Saint-Émilion. Since 2008, Castillon has merged with three other Côtes Bordelaises to become the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux AOC , which covers approximately 3,000 hectares. The main grape varieties cultivated are, in order of importance, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. After the Hundred Years' War, the Château belonged to the Leberthon family; it was then sold to Etienne Martineau shortly before the French Revolution. He expanded the estate, transforming it into a vast property of 400 hectares. The estate remained in the family until 1920, when it was acquired by Stephan von Neipperg in 1998. Today, the estate is part of the Comtes von Neipperg Vineyards and comprises 111 hectares, 50 of which are planted with vines. The vineyards are predominantly south-facing and cultivated using sustainable practices within a biodynamic framework.

In addition to its grand vin, the Château produces a second red wine and a white wine. It is produced from the same grape varieties as its older sibling, then aged for 15 to 20 months in oak barrels. It is a powerful and intense wine, with aromas of small red and black fruits. On the palate, it is structured with a fresh finish. The well-integrated tannins are appreciated. It pairs very well with grilled red meat, such as a ribeye steak.
Finally, Le Blanc d'Aiguilhe is the estate's dry white wine, under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation.
