                Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru

                • Terroirs and geology
The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru appellation lies on the border between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune . Its highest point is between 280 and 330 meters above sea level. It encompasses the villages of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Ladoix-Serrigny. The vineyard is situated on the Corton mountain, which benefits from a perfect geological profile. The marl soils, very rich in clay, are ideal for the vines. The vineyard covers 52 hectares. Each year, approximately 2,000 hectoliters of white wine are produced. Only the following vineyard sites, En Charlemagne, Charlemagne, Les Pougets, Les Languettes, Le Corton, Les Renardes, Basses Mourottes, Hautes Mourottes, Le Rognet, and Corton, are eligible for the Corton-Charlemagne appellation.
                • History

It is the only wine in the world to bear the name of two emperors: Corton, in reference to the German emperor Curtis Otto, and Charlemagne, after Carolus Magnus, the vineyard's owner in the 7th century. Legend has it that towards the end of his life, the elderly Emperor Charlemagne suffered from tremors and was unable to hold his glass without spilling it on his beard. He supposedly decided to plant only white grape varieties in the vineyard to avoid staining it. Since then, Corton-Charlemagne has been a white wine. Emperor Charlemagne gifted this vineyard to the Collegiate Church of Saint Andoche in Saulieu in 775. At that time, it was known as Clos Charlemagne. During the French Revolution, the vineyard was sold as national property (1791-92).

                • Wines from the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru appellation

The color of these wines is pale gold. It displays green highlights in its youth and develops amber hues after a few years of aging. The terroir allows for the production of Chardonnays that are full of finesse and particularly charming. We love its truffle and leathery notes that develop over time.

Grand Cru from the Côte de Beaune , these dry white wines are among the most renowned in the world. They require a minimum of 5 to 15 years of aging before revealing their full complexity. Connoisseurs are familiar with the aromatic richness of these wines, characterized by honey, toasted almonds, and walnuts, balanced by a beautiful acidity.

                • The essential areas
High-quality wineries have contributed to the renown of the appellation.
Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils was founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard. Today, it is one of the oldest wineries in Burgundy , perpetuating three centuries of winemaking tradition and nine generations of winemakers. The family's primary objective is to balance respect for nature and tradition through masterful winemaking. Their unique heritage allows them to produce wines in prestigious appellations such as Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. In this appellation, the very rich wines reflect the minerality of the terroir. The balance is perfect, and the wines possess exceptional aging potential.
Domaine Faiveley is located in the heart of Burgundy's wine country, between Dijon and Beaune in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Historically based in the capital of the Côte de Nuits , the Faiveley family has gradually expanded its estate and now owns parcels in some of Burgundy 's finest vineyards. The estate's Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru reveals magnificent concentration, remarkable freshness, and precision. This is a wine that deserves to age for a few years in the cellar before being enjoyed.
