The destiny of a determined woman
Nothing predestined Isabel Ferrando for winemaking: she had a first career as an executive in the banking sector. Guided by a visceral passion for wine, she decided to give it all up, trained in oenology, and bought the domaine historical site of Saint-Préfert 2002.
With a clear vision and boundless energy, she is redefining the domaine by placing absolute respect for nature and the pursuit of purity at the center of his work. By combining Saint-Préfert and his other acquisitions (such as la cuvée Colombis), the domaine officially takes the name of Isabel Ferrando Family.
An uncompromising philosophy: Organic and Biodynamic
Located in the southern part of the appellation, the vineyard extends over sunny terroirs of rolled pebbles, gravel, blue clay and sand.
-
Isabel Ferrando quickly converted the vineyard to clean viticulture: the domaine obtains organic certification, then switches entirely to biodynamics (Demeter certified).
-
She is replanting hedges, installing nesting boxes and preserving a mass selection conservatory to cherish her plant heritage.
The major stylistic turning point: The return to the Unique Wine
From 2003 to 2019, Isabel drew inspiration from the Burgundian model, isolating her terroirs through three globally sought-after red wines: the Classic, there Auguste Favier Reserve and the Charles Giraud Collection.
However, drawing on her intimate knowledge of her plots of land, she took a bold turn:
-
The end of land division: Since the 2020 vintage, it has decided to merge its historical cuvées to return to the purest tradition of Châteauneuf-du-Pape : the great unique blended wine.
-
Style in a bottle: Its reds are distinguished by an extraordinary aromatic elegance, a silky texture, and a rare digestibility for Châteauneuf. They reveal notes of licorice, intense strawberry jam, and cocoa bean, all underpinned by a sensation of fresh, chalky, and saline character.
The Major Vintages of the Range
-
Isabel Ferrando Family - Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge : The great signature wine of domaine, A sublime marriage of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. A model of balance between southern power and refinement.
-
Doves: A unique and legendary vintage, from a 100% old Grenache grapes on sandy soils. A wine of ethereal fragrance and finesse that rivals great Burgundies in elegance.
-
F601: An extremely rare collector's cuvée, from an arid plot of very old Cinsaults planted in 1928, offering a unique and poetic expression of this grape variety.
-
Châteauneuf-du-Pape White : A white wine of great tension and superb saline minerality, mainly blending Clairette and Roussanne, partly vinified and aged in glass globes to preserve a brilliant fruit.
