The vineyard of Château Palmer covers approximately 66 hectares within the appellation Margaux, from which a rigorous selection feeds Alter Ego de Palmer. The vines, averaging 25 to 30 years old, are cultivated biodynamically on deep, fine gravelly soils resting on a clay-limestone base. This geological diversity gives the grapes a beautiful aromatic complexity and a balanced structure. The temperate oceanic microclimate, combined with the demanding cultivation practices of the domaine, guarantees optimal ripening of the berries and an authentic expression of the Médoc terroir in each vintage.

Owner and history

THE Château Palmer has been owned since 2004 by the Sichel and Mahler-Besse families, two historic players in the Bordeaux wine trade. Together, they have breathed new life into the domaine by entrusting the management to Thomas Duroux, former winemaker of Ornellaia. Under his leadership, the château has converted to biodynamic farming, affirming a commitment to respecting living organisms and enhancing the terroir. This rigorous and dedicated approach is reflected in the exceptional quality of their wines, including Alter Ego, which embodies their quest for harmony between innovation, tradition, and excellence in one of the most distinguished wines of Margaux.

Vinification and aging

At Château Palmer, The winemaking process is carried out plot by plot, with meticulous precision. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing for gentle tannin extraction. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months, with 25 to 30% new oak for Alter Ego, to preserve the purity of the fruit.
For the 2024 vintage, Alter Ego de Palmer benefits from a aging process adapted to its more accessible style, while retaining a good aging capacity, with the same care as the Grand Vin.
