History of domaine
Generations of Excellence
Founded in 1626, Trimbach moved to Ribeauvillé after starting out in Riquewihr, a property passed down through 13 generations. The family made its mark as early as 1898 at the Brussels Exhibition, where Frédéric-Emile Trimbach received an exceptional distinction.
Transition to sustainable viticulture
Trimbach eliminated all use of chemicals in 1972 and began a conversion to organic farming in 2008, with HVE-3 certification obtained in 2023. Since 1996, the company has practiced sexual confusion in the vineyards and has launched a vast mass-selection program to protect the genetic heritage.
Vineyard of domaine
With a vineyard of 58 ha spread across more than 70 plots in nine Alsatian villages (Ribeauvillé, Hunawihr, etc.), the average age of the vines is around 47 years old, guaranteeing a refined expression of the terroirs. Trimbach owns several renowned grand cru vineyards (Clos Sainte Hune, etc.) and cultivates its land using organic farming methods, with particular attention paid to the soil, biodiversity and the preservation of noble grape varieties.
Winemaking and aging at domaine
The grape harvest is 100% manualThe juice is pressed in pneumatic presses and then flows directly into the cellar by gravity to be settled and fermented in stainless steel tanks. For late harvest wines, fermentation lasts approximately three weeks, without malolactic fermentation, in order to preserve the fruity freshness. Aging is minimal: a brief period in oak barrels followed by a few months of bottle aging before release, ensuring a perfect balance between residual sugar, aromas, and acidity.
