An Aristocratic and Visionary Heritage
Founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta (grandson of the creator of the legendary Sassicaia in Tuscany), the bodega was born from a love at first sight for abandoned Pinot Noir vines, planted in 1932.
Piero's objective was clear: to prove that Patagonia can produce wines of extreme finesse, far from the clichés of ultra-powerful and oaky Argentinian reds.
A Land of Contrasts: Patagonia
The vineyard benefits from a unique natural environment that shapes the character of the wines:
-
Climat Arid: The air is crystal clear with almost no humidity, naturally protecting the vines from disease.
-
Constant Winds: The winds of Patagonia force the vine to thicken the skin of the grapes, which brings color and a fine tannic structure.
-
Thermal Amplitude: The icy desert nights preserve a vibrant acidity, essential for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
A Bio and Biodynamic Philosophy
Bodega Chacra treats the land with almost religious respect:
-
Certification: THE domaine is certified organic and biodynamicNo chemicals are used.
-
Traditional Irrigation: The meltwater from the Andes snow is transported through irrigation canals dug in the 19th century, flooding the soil in a controlled manner.
-
Minimal Intervention: In the cellar, fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts and the use of sulfur is reduced to the bare minimum.
The Iconic Vintages
THE domaine It is organized around historical plots whose names reflect the year of planting:
-
Chakra 32: The flagship. Made from vines planted in 1932, it is a deep, complex and mineral wine.
-
Chakra 55: A more ethereal and floral Pinot Noir, from vines planted in 1955.
-
Barda: The "second wine", more accessible, pure and fruity.
-
Mainqué (Chardonnay): Created in collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot (famous winemaker from Meursault), this white redefines the standards of Argentinian Chardonnay with its saline precision.
Did you know that? In 2020, la cuvée Chakra 32 (2018 vintage) was crowned "Wine of the Year" by critic James Suckling, definitively propelling Patagonia onto the map of the world's greatest terroirs.
