The origin of wine

Spanning 70 hectares, the terroir plays a major role in the quality of the wines produced.Medochas the advantage of benefiting from a microclimate perfectly suited to the growth of the vine. That is why theMedocis the largest concentration of "great wines". In order to highlight all that nature provides, the use of chemicals is kept to a minimum. The microclimate is what characterizes the appellation.Saint-Julien, thanks to the advantages it offers to the vines. The soil is composed of clayey gravel and sand, which is perfectly suited to the climate. As for the grape varieties, it is mainly composed ofCabernet SauvignonandMerlot.

This strength and finesse also allow them to age for many years. The vineyard is managed using sustainable farming practices, and the harvest is done by hand. The grape varieties used in the wines ofGruaud Larose Castleis composed of:

• 29% ofmerlot
• 7% ofCabernet Franc
• 3% oflittle green one

As for the winemaking process, it takes place in temperature-controlled tanks. Maceration lasts 20 to 30 days, at a suitable temperature. Regarding theSarget de Gruaud Larose,The aging process lasts at least 14 months in 15% new barrels and the remainder for 1 to 2 years in French oak barrels.Gruaud Larose,It is aged for 18 months in 80% new oak barrels.
