History of the Estate The Macchiole - Italy

the story of The Macchiole - Italy

            The history of the estate

A family and a lot of passion

The Macchiolewas founded in 1980 byEugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli. They were pioneers in the region and played a major role in popularizing the wines ofBolgheriThe estate takes its name from the farm where it was established in the early 1980s. The couple decided to completely replant the vineyard to create wines more representative of the terroir.BolgheriToday, Cinzia manages the winery with the support of her sons Elia and Mattia, and the oenologist Luca d'Attma. The estate is constantly evolving to place innovation and terroir at the heart of the creative process.

            The vineyard

            Bolgheri, a treasure of Tuscany

Originally, the vineyard covered 4 hectares of vines. Gradually, the vines expanded.Cabernet franc, merlot and syrahare planted and converted intoorganic farmingfrom 2002 and then inBiodynamicsIn 2010, the family sought to develop an increasingly sustainable approach by placing terroir at the heart of winemaking.

The vineyard ofBolgheriIt is located on the Etruscan coast between the hills and the sea. The appellation was created in 1983 thanks in particular to the work of the estate. The alkaline clay soil, the dry and breezy climate, and the cool temperatures allow for the production of elegant wines with incredible aging potential.

Today, the vineyard covers 64 hectares of vines, in a mosaic of vineyards.

            The spirit of wines

            High-quality vintages

The winery works exclusively with its own grapes from its vineyard. Each cuvée benefits from a bespoke approach, tailored plot by plot. The hand-harvested grapes undergo a double sorting process, followed by precise winemaking. Like their terroirs, the estate's wines possess a distinctive character. The Macchioleproduces terroir wines of great elegance with exceptional aging potential.

The Bolgheri Rossowas first produced in 2004. It consists ofmerlot, cabernet franc and syrahThe character, structure and complexity of the wine do not detract from its finesse.

The estate's wines highlight the potential ofBolgheriand are now among the essentials ofTuscany.
