History of the Estate Pedesclaux Castle

          the story of Pedesclaux Castle

The undeniable prestige of Pédesclaux Castle

The unparalleled quality of a Pauillac

THEChâteau Pédesclaux, located in the municipality ofPauillac, in theMedocThe Médoc region boasts exceptional soil quality. Indeed, the Médoc's remarkable terroir was truly discovered in the 17th and 18th centuries, a time when châteaux were built in the region and a classification system was established to highlight the most illustrious. The 1855 classification is the most famous. It was organized by the Chamber of Commerce in preparation for the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Even today, the names included in this classification inspire dreams around the world.Château Pédesclauxhas the chance to obtain the title of5th Growth Classifieda reputation that has followed it to this day. The château was established in 1810 by the broker Pierre-Urbain Pédesclaux, who gave it his name. He later expanded the vineyard, notably in 1821 by purchasing plots from Mr. Lacoste, then owner of Château Grand Puy in Pauillac. As early as 1841, a wine cellar was built in the town center ofPauillacThe castle then covered nearly 8 hectares. Several owners succeeded one another at the head of the castle. In 1951, Lucien Jugla acquired the castle, having already managed it since 1930. Through purchases and resales of surrounding castles, theChâteau PédesclauxIt eventually reached an area of 48 hectares. In 2013, Emmanuel Cruse became the general manager of the château, alongside the owners.Jacky and Françoise LorenzettiThey have the ambition to raise the castle among thethe biggest names of the Médoc.

          Between tradition and exceptional know-how

at the cutting edge of technology

After more than two centuries of existence, theChâteau PédesclauxThis hasn't slowed down its ambitions or its development; quite the opposite! The new owners have launched considerable works, including the redesign and expansion of the vineyard. They have acquired new, high-quality plots and built a new gravity-flow winery that respects the original quality of the grapes. To carry out these projects successfully, they have surrounded themselves with the best experts, such as Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen as technical director.Eric Boissenotas a consulting oenologist or even as an urban planner and designerJean-Michel WilmotteMoreover, the renovation of the wine cellar is worth seeing, the building combining modernity and tradition.Château PédesclauxThis affirms its desire to reach the top, not only through the exceptional quality of its wines but also through its architecture and image.

          An exceptional terroir

The best of the Pauillac appellation

THEChâteau PédesclauxIt rests on a geological marvel 40 million years old. Indeed, this unique terroir, typical of theMedoc, is both complex and elegant. Thanks to the mosaic of soils, the clay brings power to the wine, while the gravel contributes expression and elegance. Regarding the grape varieties, we find:

          • 50% Cabernet Sauvignon,
          • 45% Merlot
          • and Cabernet Franc at 5%.

To get the best from the vines, the vineyard is managed using sustainable farming practices, with partial tilling and cover cropping, and regular interventions to ensure quality while controlling yields. If you are more drawn to their Grand Cru, expect a dense and structured Pauillac, with a truly unique voluptuousness. It is an excellent wine for aging that you can enjoy without any problem after a few years. As for their second wine, “Fleur de Pédesclaux,” you will taste a softer, very tender and luscious wine, with intense and flavorful fruit aromas. You can enjoy it in its youth or wait a few years for it to mature.
