Description

Jacquesson, founded in 1798, is one of the pioneering houses that contributed to the global reputation of Champagne. As early as the 19th century, the house was praised by Napoleon I himself, who made it one of his favorite cuvées. Today, the house is considered a model of precision, exacting standards, and uniqueness, producing rare champagnes often sought after by connoisseurs worldwide.

Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

Champ Caïn reveals a chiseled nose of candied lemon, wet stone and white flowers, carried by a straight, vertical and saline palate, where the Chardonnay expresses a crystalline touch and a long, almost chalky finish.

Vauzelle Terme opens with notes of small red fruits, stone fruit, delicate spices, and light cocoa; the palate, fuller, develops a deep and structured texture typical of great Pinot Noirs from Aÿ, with a persistent and subtly smoky finish. Together, these two wines offer an impeccable expression of the terroir's identity and Jacquesson's mastery.

Food & wine pairings

Cain Fieldpairs perfectly with scallop carpaccio, roast turbot, sea bass sashimi or truffled poultry.

Vauzelle TermeIt will perfectly complement roast pigeon, porcini risotto, pan-seared foie gras, or even aged Comté cheese. These pairings highlight the depth, tension, and finesse of these two distinct expressions.

Avize Champ Caïn comes from a Chardonnay plot located on the lower slopes of the Avize hillside, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, on exceptionally pure chalky soils. This east-facing plot benefits from slow and even ripening, producing wines of great minerality.
Aÿ Vauzelle Terme, for its part, is a small, historic Pinot Noir plot planted on warm clay soils mixed with chalk, producing structured, deep, and uniquely spicy wines. These two terroirs are among the most renowned in their respective villages.

Owner and history

For more than two centuries, Champagne Jacquesson cultivates the art of wine Champagne with passion, exacting standards, and creativity. Founded in 1798 in Châlons-sur-Marne by Claude and Memmie Jacquesson, the House is one of the oldest in the region. In the 19th century, the House experienced meteoric growth. At the origin of this golden age was Adolphe Jacquesson, an inspired director and visionary inventor. In 1844, he revolutionized the world of... champagne by patenting the wire cage, the small wire still used today to hold the cork in place. This also contributed, at the time, to revolutionizing champagne-making techniques with the famous Jules Guyot. Under Adolphe Jacquesson's direction, a certain Johann Joseph Krug held the position of cellar master before founding the eponymous house. Jacquesson's renown also grew thanks to a persistent rumor: the champagne Jacquesson would be Napoleon I's favorite. After navigating a more challenging late 19th and early 20th centuries, the house was acquired by the de Tassigny family in 1924. They contributed to the redevelopment and revitalization of Jacquesson. The house's spirit of innovation has endured through the ages. In 1974, the Chiquet family took over and installed the domaine in Dizy. For nearly 50 years, Jean Chiquet, then his sons Laurent and Jean-Hervé, breathed new life into the House, placing precision and terroir at the heart of their approach. This quest for excellence is reflected, in particular, in the creation of Cuvée No. 700, which has become an inspiration throughout the region. Champagne and an international benchmark. At the end of 2022, Jacquesson joined the Artémis Domaines group, owned by the Pinault and Henriot La Rouzière families. Under the leadership of Frédéric Engerer, Managing Director of Artémis Domaines, and Jean Garandeau, Managing Director of Jacquesson, the team continues to meticulously attend to every detail and perpetuate the vision of its predecessors: a free and audacious spirit that remains deeply rooted in the Champagne.

Vinification and aging

Jacquesson practices extremely rigorous plot-by-plot winemaking: gentle pressing, fermentation in oak casks, and extended aging on the lees without any artificial intervention. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve the purity of the terroir. Dosage is very low, or even nonexistent, to allow the wine's natural substance and precision to fully express themselves. These non-vintage (NM) wines are the result of an ultra-limited blend focused on a single vintage and complemented by reserve wines, always with a focus on preserving the identity of the plot.

Two mythical terroirs magnified by Jacquesson, where the purity of Avize meets the depth of Aÿ in a blend of rare precision.
