Château d'Yquem is the result of a mysterious alchemy that transforms the terroirs, the know-how and a microscopic fungus, Botrytis cinerea, into a sublime wine with a golden color.
The vintage 2023 represents the culmination of three consecutive years of excellence, forming the first trilogy of the 21st century – a rare phenomenon since the legendary vintages of 1988, 1989 and 1990.

Producer

Producer

The Château d'Yquem covers 113 hectares, exclusively dedicated to the production of sweet wine. The soil, composed of gravel on a clay-limestone subsoil, ensures excellent drainage and allows slow ripening of the grapes. This unique terroir, combined with the morning fogs coming from the Garonne and the Ciron, favors the development of botrytis cinerea, this noble mushroom which concentrates the sugars and complicates the aromas.

Owner and history

The LVMH group acquired the domaine in 1999. In 2005, Pierre Lurton took over the management of Château d’Yquem, collaborating with the head of cultivation Francis Mayeur and the head cellar Sandrine Garbay. Since the summer of 2025, Lorenzo Pasquini has held the position of general director of Château d’Yquem. Previously, he was director of operations since fall 2020 and notably led the conversion of domaine to organic farming, officially completed in 2022.

Vinification and aging

The 2023 vintage represents the culmination of three consecutive years of excellence, forming the first trilogy of the 21st century – a rare phenomenon since the legendary vintages of 1988, 1989 and 1990.

After the crystalline finesse of 2021 and the solar power of 2022, 2023 stands out for its
accomplished balance, the result of a contrasting but perfectly controlled climatic context. A warm and humid spring, followed by a summer marked by episodes of high heat and timely and regenerative rains, allowed the gradual and ideal development of noble rot.

The team's opinion

When tasting, the Château d’Yquem 2023 reveals luminous density and rare harmony. Its pure and precise nose evokes stewed rhubarb, lilac and citrus fruits, subtly enhanced with notes of beeswax and cedar. On the palate, the attack is ample and silky, revealing flavors of apricot, Ente plum and mandarin jam, supported by a structuring freshness. The long and tasty finish leaves an impression of vibrant velvet, revealing both the immediate accessibility of the wine and its immense aging potential.
