The Jewel of Avize This cuvée is a single-vineyard, single-cru wine. It comes exclusively from a small plot located in Avize, one of the most prestigious villages in the Côte des Blancs, classified Grand Cru. The name, "La Vigne aux Gamins" (The Kids' Vineyard), is a tribute to the passing down of knowledge. It is a plot of land... vieilles vignes that Stanislas and Garance Thiénot used to travel through as children. The Terroir: The soil here is a very pure, outcropping chalk. This chalk acts like a sponge and a thermal mirror, giving the Chardonnay an incomparable tension and saline minerality.

Owner and history

Maison Thiénot is now run by Garance and Stanislas Thiénot, the children of Alain Thiénot. They carry on the family legacy with passion and dedication, ensuring the continued high standards of excellence that have made the house famous. Garance and Stanislas share their father's passion for wine and attention to detail. They work closely with the team of winemakers and oenologists to create unique champagnes that reflect the authentic character of the Champagne terroir.

Vinification and aging

High-Precision Winemaking
Maison Thiénot treats this vintage with meticulous care:

100% Chardonnay: A Blanc de Blancs pure.

Extended aging: The wine spent over 11 years on its lees in the estate's cellars before disgorgement. This exceptionally long resting period is key to the wine's complexity, allowing the vibrancy of the fruit to blend with elegant, evolving notes.

Dosage: Low (Extra-Brut), in order to let the terroir of Avize express itself without artifice.

The team's opinion

If the 2010 is a precision razor blade, the Champagne "La Vigne aux Gamins" 2009 from Maison Thiénot is a much more generous, sunny and opulent work. In 2009, the Champagne It benefited from a dry summer and record sunshine, resulting in perfectly ripe grapes. This single-vineyard cuvée from Avize Grand Cru expresses here all the power and deliciousness that Chardonnay can offer on a chalk terroir.
