The Opus One vineyard is meticulously maintained and cultivated using sustainable practices. The soils, composed of sand, clay, and limestone, promote optimal drainage and harmonious ripening of the grapes. The Mediterranean climate, with sunny days and cool nights, allows for maximum expression of the grape varieties. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve the authenticity of the terroir, thus guaranteeing the exceptional quality of the wines produced.

    Owner and history

Today, Opus One is owned by the Mondavi family and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, thus perpetuating the legacy of its founders. This unique collaboration continues to influence wine production, blending Californian expertise with Bordeaux tradition. The owners are committed to respecting the environment and promoting sustainable viticulture, while maintaining the excellence for which Opus One is renowned internationally.

    Vinification and aging

The winemaking process at Opus One is an art in itself, blending tradition and innovation. The grapes are harvested by hand, then destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, allowing for a gentle extraction of tannins. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, some of which are new, for 18 months. This careful aging process gives the wine its structure and complexity, while preserving the pure expression of the grape varieties.
