“Embodied class.” — Antonio Galloni, Vinous 98pts

« Opus One 2023 seems to be the most accomplished of the last three vintages.” — Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, 96+pts

Created by Baron Philippe de Rothschild and the pioneer of Napa Valley Robert Mondavi, Opus One was born from an ambition: to produce a great wine domaine, without compromise. The two men combined their Bordeaux expertise with the exceptional terroir of the Napa Valley. Opus One quickly established itself as an icon of Californian wines. For the past 25 years, Michael Silacci, at the head of domaine, has maintained this meticulous work.

The vineyards ofOpus One have benefited from the California Certified Organic Farming certification since 2021. In 2023, some plots began a transition towards regenerative practices : grazing, reduced soil tillage, cover crops, and targeted irrigation. The 2023 vintage provided domaine with the necessary conditions for a particularly mastered expression of Cabernet SauvignonThis balance is closely linked to the location of domaine, to the west of Oakville, at the foot of the Mayacamas mountains.

« Red and purple fruits, mint, orange zest, and chalk intertwine in a composition of almost indescribable class. The 2023 glides across the palate with a finesse and restraint lightness, without lacking substance. » — Antonio Galloni

The precision of the 2023 lies in the correctness of its proportions. It possesses the characteristic structure ofOpus One. The freshness of the vintage and its airy aromas give it a particularly classic profile, crafted for long aging while offering, from today, a remarkably precise expression.

Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon 81%, Merlot 7%, Cabernet Franc 6%, Petit Verdot 5%, and Malbec 1%.

Opus One was created in 1978 by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, legendary owner of Château Mouton Rothschild and by the famous winemaker of the Napa Valley, Robert Mondavi. By embracing the winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the goal of the partners was to create an exceptional wine. Opus One seduces the whole world and deserves the rank of " Grand Cru Classé from California. " It has 55 hectares of vineyards, planted with Bordeaux grapes. In 1991 la baronne Philippine de Rothschild inaugurates the new winery, architectural jewel of the Napa Valley. In 2004, Constellation Brands, Inc. acquired Robert Mondavi Winery and maintained its partnership with Baron Philippe de Rothschild to maintain a 50-50 partnership. Affirming its independence and achieving a perfect balance between the two partners, the sole intention ofOpus One s vision and passion for future generations.

    Vinification and aging

The domaine of Opus One consists of 4 parcels located in the western area of the famous Oakville wine region. Two plots, representing an area of 40 hectares, are part of the famous To Kalon vineyard. To these are added the 28 hectares of plots of Ballestra and River which encircle the domaine of Opus One. The work of the vines is carried out according to traditional methods, such as harvesting by hand, when these represent the best choice. In addition, if modern techniques can improve our viticulture methods, we study and evaluate them rigorously before implementing them.
