Today, Shafer Vineyards is run by Doug Shafer, who took over from his father, John. With an unwavering passion for winemaking, Doug carries on the family legacy while incorporating sustainable practices. Under his leadership, the estate has continued to grow while maintaining a high level of excellence. Shafer wines are the result of hard work and devotion to the land, making them essential references in the Napa Valley wine scene.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Shafer Vineyards is carried out with meticulous care. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed to extract the juice. This juice then ferments in stainless steel tanks, preserving freshness and aromas. Aging in oak barrels, some of which are new, adds further complexity to the wine. This process, combined with innovative winemaking methods, results in wines of great finesse, reflecting the terroir and authenticity of the estate.
