The palate is ample and silky, with a beautiful tannic structure and refreshing acidity. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a fruity and mineral imprint. A harmonious and elegant wine, promising excellent aging potential.

It will perfectly complement roast poultry, game birds or a platter of mature cheeses.

Producer

Producer

Jean-Claude Chanudet is a purist. His winemaking follows the precepts of historical natural winemaking: Zero input: Natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, without added sulfur during vinification. Carbonic maceration: Traditional, in whole bunches, very long and at low temperature to gently infuse the aromas. Patient aging: This is the Chamonard signature. While many estates release their wines quickly, here they wait. The wine spends approximately 10 to 12 months in old casks and barrels, then rests for a long time in the bottle before being released for sale.

Owner and history

The 2019 Morgon of Domaine Joseph Chamonard is one of the most secret and authentic gems of the Beaujolais region. Located in Villié-Morgon, this domaine is now led by Geneviève Chamonard and her husband Jean-Claude Chanudet (nicknamed "The Cat"). They are part of the "gang of five" (along with Lapierre, Foillard, Thévenet, and Breton) who, under the impetus of Jules Chauvet, revived natural wine in France. To taste a Chamonard is to savor the pure history of Morgon.

Vinification and aging

Although the label simply states Morgon, the majority of the grapes come from lieu-dit THE Clos of Lily.

The Soil: We are on decomposed granites and schists, those famous "rotten rocks" which give Morgon its structure and its smoky mineral character.

The Vineyards: The domaine is famous for its very old vines (often over 60 years old), which explains the depth and natural concentration of the wine without the need for forceful extraction in the cellar.

The team's opinion

A vibrant and sincere Morgon that captures the very essence of its terroir. A wine of emotion, to be shared and savored.
