The year 2020 was marked by heat waves and forest fires in Napa Valley. For the Rubicon, the decision was radical: Early Harvest: Almost all of the grapes destined for Rubicon were harvested before the start of the fires at the end of September (Glass Fire). Drastic Selection: The production volume is significantly lower than in previous years. Only batches exhibiting absolute purity and no trace of smoke damage were retained. Rubicon is a terroir wine, made from historic vines planted by Gustave Niebaum at the end of the 19th century. Typical blend: It is mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (generally more than 90%), complemented by a touch of Merlot and sometimes Cabernet Franc. The "Rutherford Dust": The wine perfectly expresses this earthy and spicy character, with tannins of a powdery fineness for which this area is famous.
