    Tasting notes

The deep purple robe of Cheval des Andes 2017 hints at great richness. The complex nose blends black fruit, sweet spices, and elegant oak. On the palate, the attack is ample and structured, with perfectly polished tannins. The wine is dense yet retains a lovely freshness. The long, refined finish lingers with balsamic and licorice notes. A wine of balance and finesse, worthy of the very best.

    Food & wine pairings

This wine will enhance a grilled rib of beef, a slow-cooked leg of lamb or a porcini mushroom risotto.

The Cheval des Andes vineyard is located in the prestigious Luján de Cuyo region of Mendoza, on the historic terroirs of Las Compuertas and Paraje Altamira. The soil is composed of gravel, sand, and clay, ensuring excellent drainage and optimal concentration in the grapes. The high altitude allows for significant temperature variations, ideal for preserving freshness and aromatic complexity. The ancient vines, some over a century old, are cultivated with great respect for the environment.

    Owner and history

Cheval des Andes is now co-managed by the teams of Terrazas de los Andes and Château Cheval Blanc, two entities within the LVMH group. This project embodies a bold vision: to combine the exceptional terroirs of Mendoza with the exacting standards of a Bordeaux Premier Grand Cru Classé. Since 1999, the owners have focused on oenological precision, sustainability, and elegance, making each vintage a true work of viticultural art.

    Vinification and aging

At the estate, winemaking is inspired by the great Bordeaux wines: hand-harvesting, meticulous sorting, and vinification by plot. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, promoting the pure expression of the fruit.
The 2017 vintage was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels (35% new), imparting structure and elegance. The final blend was created after rigorous tasting, guaranteeing a perfect balance between power, finesse, and aging potential.
