Located in Luján de Cuyo, in the heart of the Mendoza wine region, Cheval des Andes was born from the union of the Bordeaux expertise of Château Cheval Blanc and the high-altitude terroir of Argentina. This unique estate embodies an ambitious project: to create the " Grand Cru of the Andes " by combining French elegance with Andean power. Cultivated at over 1,000 meters above sea level, the vineyard benefits from a dry continental climate, perfect for the slow ripening of the grapes. The estate's identity rests on the finesse of its tannins, the aromatic complexity, and the remarkable aging potential of its wines.

The Cheval des Andes vineyard is located in the foothills of the Andes, in the historic terroirs of Las Compuertas and Altamira. The vines, some over a century old, thrive in alluvial soils of gravel, sand, and clay, giving the wine depth and tension. The high altitude and significant temperature variations ensure a beautiful natural freshness. This meticulous viticulture, combined with sustainable farming practices, allows the unique character of Argentina's terroirs to fully express itself.

    Owner and history

Cheval des Andes is the result of a collaboration between the legendary Château Cheval Blanc (a Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Émilion) and the Argentinian Terrazas de los Andes family, a subsidiary of the LVMH group. Together, they have built a visionary project, driven by a quest for excellence and respect for the terroir. Their philosophy is based on elegance, balance, and sustainability, giving rise to world-class wines that embody the grandeur of the Andes and the spirit of Bordeaux.

    Vinification and aging

At the estate, winemaking respects the unique character of each plot: hand-harvesting, rigorous sorting, and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The 2018 vintage was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels (35% new), enhancing its complexity and structure. For this cuvée, the precise blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot offers a perfect harmony between richness and refinement. The result is a finely crafted wine, destined for aging and fine dining.
