The Petrus vineyard is a jewel of 11 hectares, nestled on the Pomerol plateau. The clay-limestone soil offers exceptional natural drainage, promoting optimal grape ripening. The vines, averaging 40 years old, benefit from a temperate oceanic climate with Atlantic influences, ideal for developing rich and complex aromas. This harmony between soil and climate contributes to the unique character of Petrus wines, which are often considered the most refined of the appellation.

    Owner and history

Currently, the Petrus estate is managed by the Moueix family, who have preserved the heritage and soul of this exceptional vineyard. Jean-Pierre Moueix, an iconic figure, was the first to bring Petrus international renown. Today, his descendants continue to work with passion to produce wines of impeccable quality, combining modern techniques with respect for tradition. Their commitment to excellence is reflected in every bottle, making Petrus a symbol of prestige and refinement.

    Vinification and aging

The winemaking process at Petrus is a meticulous art, where every step is carefully considered to enhance the Merlot. The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring rigorous selection. After delicate destemming, fermentation takes place in wooden vats, allowing for a gentle extraction of tannins. Aging, lasting 18 to 24 months, occurs in French oak barrels, some of which are new. This process imparts to the wine its full-bodied structure and aromatic complexity, while preserving the identity of the terroir.
