The Petrus vineyard is exceptional, situated on a clay plateau that retains moisture, ideal for growing Merlot. The soil is primarily clay, which gives the wines their richness and complexity. Vineyard management is meticulous, with each vine carefully tended to optimize grape quality. The temperate, oceanic climate of Pomerol allows for slow and even ripening, essential for developing Petrus's unique aromatic expression.

    Owner and history

Currently, the Petrus estate is managed by the Moueix family, who have preserved the heritage and reputation of this iconic wine. Jean-Pierre Moueix, a leading figure in the wine world, played a major role in making Petrus known throughout the globe. Under his leadership, the estate adopted environmentally friendly practices, adhering to sustainable agriculture principles. The family's passion and commitment to quality and authenticity are reflected in every bottle, thus perpetuating the Petrus legend.

    Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Petrus is a symphony of precision and tradition. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and then rigorously sorted. Fermentation takes place in wooden and concrete vats, promoting a gentle extraction of tannins. Aging, lasting approximately 18 to 24 months, occurs in oak barrels, a significant percentage of which are new, to preserve aromatic integrity while adding a subtle touch of oak. This traditional method, combined with modern technology, results in wines of unparalleled quality.
